The average duration off the surgery is 2-3 hours. This duration covers the surgery and preparation for it (anaesthesiologist’s service, patient's preparation, anaesthesia etc.).

The surgery can be avoided if the prescribed conservative treatment measures (nutrition control, physical activity) are effective.

This surgery ensures a long-lasting effect; the repeated surgery will not be required. However, the long-lasting success and weight losing results directly depend on your life style and how you follow the instructions of your physicians.

Like with other surgeries a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is associated with a small risk of complications: the main of them are – wound dehiscence, internal bleeding, clot formation, infection, chronic pain after the surgery.

If the surgery site is attended carefully the remaining scars are usually very small and negligible. Eventually they fade away and are practically invisible.

After surgery it is recommended to abstain from active physical activities for some time: it will take some 6-8 weeks until you come back to your daily routine. Complete restoration of physical activity and participation in sports is allowed after the complete recovery.

The surgery is carried out under a general anaesthesia, therefore you will not feel any pain. You can experience pain of different severity during the first days after the surgery, aching, nausea and vomiting, general tiredness and mood changes. If you experience severe discomfort it is recommended to take pain killers prescribed by your doctor.

The average recovery time is 6-8 weeks. During this period the patient gradually reaches his/her previous level of physical activity.

Usually the patients are discharged 2-3 days after the surgery.
