The average duration is about 2-3 hours, including the preparation (preparing the patient, injecting anesthesia, and other related procedures).

In some instances, conservative weight control measures, such as dietary regulation and physical activity, are sufficient. When they bring the desired effects, the operation can be avoided.

Gastric bypass surgery provides a long-lasting result. If you carefully follow all recommendations, the weight will decrease significantly, and you will not need to repeat the procedure. It is crucial to remember that the results depend on the patient's lifestyle, diet, and physical activity. Long-term studies show that patients have the lowest risk of weight regain for 5-10 years (and more) after this surgery.

The main principles should be: • Eat slowly and in small portions. Drink your liquids 20-30 minutes after a meal. • Eat in small pieces, and chew thoroughly. • Avoid foods high in fat, carbohydrates, and sugar. • Drink enough water, but between meals - not during meals. • We recommend regularly taking multivitamins with higher amounts of A, B, and E group vitamins, folic acid, vitamin D, and calcium.

It is a surgical procedure performed under general anesthesia with a relatively low risk of complications. Incidences of postoperative complications and mortality after laparoscopic gastric bypass are around 5% and 0.2%, respectively. The most common early postoperative complications are postoperative bleeding (2-3%) and suture leakage (up to 1%). Intestinal obstruction is the most common late complication in 1-2% of patients.

With appropriate care, the scars left after the incision are minimal. Eventually, they fade and become practically invisible.

We recommend avoiding active physical activity in the first months after gastric bypass surgery. You may return to usual physical activities and sports only after complete recovery, approximately two months after the operation.

The operation is performed under general anesthesia, so you will not feel any pain.

When you wake up after the operation and for the first few days, you may feel the pain of varying intensity, nausea, vomiting, or general fatigue. These are normal, but if the discomfort becomes severe, take the painkillers prescribed by your doctor.

Although you can gradually return to normal activities after 2-3 weeks, healing takes about 6-8 weeks on average.

Most often, patients are discharged home 2-3 days after the operation.
