Quervain is a disease manifesting by inflammation of thumb tendons and their sheaths and leading to aggravated movements, swelling and pain of the thumb, and, in some cases, also the hand traumas, however, the cases when this disease affects young persons or even children becomes increasingly more common due to intensive use of mobile phones.\u003Cbr>\u003Cbr>The following cases should be alarming:\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cul>\u003Cli>\u003Cp>pain on the external surface of wrist and basis of the thumb, which increases with movements;\u003C\u002Fp>\u003C\u002Fli>\u003Cli>\u003Cp>pain of the thumb when grasping fist;\u003C\u002Fp>\u003C\u002Fli>\u003Cli>\u003Cp>visible swelling along the thumb tendons and pain when pressing;\u003C\u002Fp>\u003C\u002Fli>\u003Cli>\u003Cp>pain starts to spread from the thumb or external surface of the wrist to the forearm.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003C\u002Fli>\u003C\u002Ful>\u003Cp>\u003Cbr>If you feel any of the aforementioned syndromes, contact the plastic and reconstruction surgeon immediately, who will inspect and evaluate the case and will provide the most suitable method of treatment.\u003Cbr>\u003Cbr>If the disease is not progressed, conservative treatment can be applied. If such treatment is ineffective, the only solution is surgery.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch3>\u003Cstrong>How the surgery is performed?\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh3>\u003Cp>The surgery is performed by applying local infiltration (when a pain relieving medical solution is injected in the issues) or regional anaesthesia.\u003Cbr>\u003Cbr>A small incision of 1.5-2 cm is made in the wrist area to open the ligament supporting the tendons.
